Here are just few of the things Dave has done in the IM niche over the past 25 years and how they helped us create AIM (just the highlights)…

4. Test, Test, Testing

ABT (always be testing) is ingrained into the online marketing community. And Dave was in constant ‘test mode’. To be successful in this business you must constantly test new ads (creative) and landing pages to increase conversions.

That means new landing page design and copy, headlines, sub-heads, bullet points, graphics, videos, scripts, and more should be constantly in development.

5. After Years of Testing Things Finally Started to “Click”

Ok, yes, pun intended. Dave was stressed out, working hard to keep up with the 100’s of ad and headline tests running at the same time and so focused on generating new leads that he lost marketing focus and was losing a lot of money on ad spends.

Then he started testing some ‘unusual’ strategies to break out of the testing hamster wheel and found a weird way to reduce subscriber costs by running an ad headline that simple said, “Membership Application”. It was his first real breakthrough to lowering his lead costs.

Above: The “Membership Application” test was the clear winner in this example. Some ad networks delivered only a few subscribers and cost up to $13 each. As you can see he did get subscribers, but made zero sales. In this small test the average cost was $5.90 per subscriber.

6. A Bigger List Is Not Always A ‘Better’ List

He lowered the cost for one lead to a reasonable level - and his conversions were much better than anything else he tried … but he grew too fast.

His list went from 10,692 to 31,826 in a few weeks and he ran into a wall with his email service provider.

They turned off his service for “growing too fast” ben though there were no spam complaints. His open rates were low however, and he had a lot of un-responsive leads who never opened his emails.

So he created a system he called ‘email farming’ to fix that problem. It gave him a smaller number of subscribers but a much higher quality subscriber who opens and clicks links.

The ability to generate a higher ‘quality’ subscriber changed his business in a very positive way.

20 subscribers who open your email are worth more than a 500 that don’t.

So he started an 2-step process to add leads to his list. Step 1 is a ‘warm-up’ period through what he calls an email ‘farm’ system…

7. A Breakthrough: Email Farming

Dave developed a unique 2-step lead filtering system that slightly slowed the rate of his growth but which helped him get a very high quality subscriber on his primary list. He was getting RSM (Revenue per Subscriber per Month) at 5X the industry average.

Step 1 is to warm up new leads in what he called an email ‘farm’. This separates the responsive from un-responsive leads.

Step 2 is putting those leads that open emails and click links onto his primary list so he gets high open and click rates.

It worked incredibly well. From then on he only wanted high quality subscribers because they convert better and builds email reputation with Google, Yahoo, AOL and other email services.

What Is an Email ‘Farm’?

It’s a system Dave developed to weed out un-responsive sign-ups from his advertising efforts. Similar to what they do in professional baseball by creating ‘farms’ and then letting only the best rise to the top - before a subscriber is added to his primary mailing list they are ‘warmed up’ and have to take certain actions (open and/or click on a link) in the farm first.

8. The Goal of Email Marketing

As Dave sees it, the goal of email marketing is not to grow your list as big as possible, it’s to get your emails opened at the highest possible rates so at least you have a chance of success with your offers.

Let’s say you have a large list but few people are opening your emails? That means you have a lot of unresponsive subscribers that you’re paying for. Most ESP’s charge by your subscriber count - so you’re paying for all those unresponsive leads.

That’s why Dave started farming. He uses a separate server for his ‘farms’ so his primary list always has a good reputation and high open rates.

It’s more expensive because he’s running multiple servers and it’s just slightly slower but the results are a much higher quality subscriber worth $2 to $3 RSM. Some lists have even achieved up to $20 RSM.

What exactly is AIM Direct?

Where can I login to AIM?

You’ll have two logins when you join: One login for the AIM Email Tracking Dashboard and one for the AIM membership portal. What’s your refund policy?

Orders to purchase leads, whether on a plan or ‘extra’ leads, are considered ‘ad insertion orders’ and cannot be refunded.

Can I use my Aim/Clickbank affiliate links to share outside of the AIM System and still get paid?

Yes! As long as you are an AIM member you can share affiliate links for products we promote with anyone. All we ask is you do not use spam emails or social media or we will have to terminate your AIM membership and access to commissions.

*If I make a commission, how much, when and how will I get paid?

Commissions on sales registered through the AIM program are paid to you directly from ClickBank. The rate of commissions paid is subject to change but will never drop below 50%. Please check their website for when payments are made and other details.

Can I upload my own leads to the the AIM System?

Maybe. Please contact AIM support to inquire.

Can I take the leads I order to mail myself or do they have to stay in AIM?

Yes! You can take your list hosted by the AIM Direct system list at any time - it belongs to you! However, to receive all the benefits of membership we highly recommend keeping them in AIM’s autopilot marketing system and growing your list.

Can I send my own emails through AIM?

No. Once your leads are in the AIM System the only emails that can be sent to them are by our DFY newsletter service. This is so the subscriber’s experience is consistent. You can email leads yourself by exporting and deleting them from the AIM system at any time, however.

Can I send solo ads to the leads you get for me?

No. Sending out solos ads degrades the value of the list significantly. For that reason we won’t be able to send solo ads to your list while in the AIM system. But you can remove your list from the AIM system at any time if you want to send solo ads yourself.

How long will it take to get leads I order?

The time it takes to get all your subscribers depends on our current number of clients working at the same time, the ad networks we use and other factors. It depends on the number of leads you have ordered, work loads, and server capacity.

What data do I get with each lead?

Each lead record includes, first name, email address, and IP of the sign up. “Enhanced” records are available which include postal mailing address and phone number (offline follow-up not included in AIM). Contact support here for details on enhanced record data and costs.

Can I sell my list on AIM?

Your list is hosted on AIM but it is yours. It’s equity for your business and if it generates revenue, it’s valuable and can be sold. Please contact us with instructions on transferring your list to someone else if you intend to sell it.

I’m a long-time customer and thought Dave retired from Internet marketing in 2016?
